Case Studies in Holistic Design
Community development doesn't fit into neat funding silos, and neither do our projects. These case studies cut across the Sustainable Development Goals.
Terat Dairy Factory and ORS FM
- 130 kWp solar and 111 kWh battery storage for an off-grid dairy processing plant, water pumping and a community radio station
- Directly empowering over 157 Maasai women, turning their cultural right of milk management into a source of income, and providing employment at the factory
- Broadcasting 24/7 to over 542,000 Maasai listeners, including educational programmes on climate resilience and gender equality
Kiruru Business Hub
- 10 kWp solar and 15 kWh battery storage for a rural Maasai community, with power distributed to nearby houses
- A central hub incubating new businesses with electricity, such as maize milling, a salon, refrigeration and phone charging
- Shorter travel distances and lower costs for the local community, plus local income generation
